We filled up our marble jar, and we got to bring stuffed animals! This week we learned about shadows and light. When it is sunny, you can see your shadows. When it’s dark, you can’t. A shadow is made when you block light. We watched a video about shadows. We also read a book about shadows. We made shadow puppets. We made buildings out of blocks, and we used a flashlight to test how the shadows would look when we moved it around. We watched a movie about Chinese New Year. In math we worked on greater than and less than. It is like an alligator mouth eating the bigger number. We wrote a shadow story that was make-believe. We read some books about a duck named Max. We also read a book called When the Leaf Blew In. We were practicing telling cause and effect. I was sick for more than a week! Daniel was sick, too. I’m glad we’re back!

It was a great week! Yesterday was the 100th day! It was fun. We had to write 100 words. I brought 100 M&M's. I ate all of them last night, and I did not have a nightmare. We have 79 days to go until school is over. We read The Night Before the 100th Day Of School. We learned about the Underground Railroad. We read another book about Harriet Tubman. We learned that she helped in the war. We also learned about Martin Luther King Jr. He wanted everyone to be treated the same. We also learned that plural means more than one. We have to add –es when a word ends in x, ch, sh, or an s sound. In math we practiced counting money. Daniel lost a tooth! It was the best week.
We had an awesome week! We learned about paragraphs. We're writing one right now! You have to scoot the words over a little bit at the beginning. The sentences all have to be about the same thing. We also learned about singular (just one) and plural (more than one). We talked about adding -s or
-es. We also read Doreen Cronin's Diary books. We made our own diaries. We learned about coins. We read a book about money. We played games. The first game we learned is that whenever we roll the dice, we get more pennies. When you fill it up with ten pennies, you get a dime. The person who gets to $1.00 first with ten dimes is the winner. We played another game that was a grid. You had to roll two dice that has a number and a letter. That's the place you have to go. If there's a coin there, you take it. When there's no more coins left, you count your money and see who has the most. We learned about Harriet Tubman. She helped hundreds of slaves be free. She led them on the Underground Railroad. They followed the Drinking Gourd. They knew a house was safe when the lights were on. We did a lot this week! This was a great week! We read Minty, which is a book about Harriet Tubman's childhood. Ethan lost his two front teeth!!! It is not 2011 anymore. It is 2012. Our new author is Doreen Cronin. We read Click Clack Moo, Cows That Type. We also read Dooby Dooby Moo. We made puppets to practice synomyms. Synonyms are words that mean the same thing. In math, we're learning to count money. Right now we are watching the spelling bee. We learned that "r" is bossy when it's beside a vowel.
