This week was the best week ever. This week Alie and Ivey lost a tooth! Aiden got 20 points in A.R.! Tonight is the Father Daughter Dance. We finished learning about George Washington Carver. We went outside and found some nests. They were made out of pine straw. We played in them like we were birds and took pictures. We are learning about sound. We listened to sounds. We saw the tuning fork make sound waves. We saw the vibrations spray water on us. It really surprised us! We wrote a story about our best weekend ever. Mrs. Baker wrote one, too, and we learned to fix the mistakes using Quickword books and dictionaries. We made a picture out of a scribble, and we wrote a story for it. We put two words together to make it shorter, and we used an apostrophe. That is called a contraction. Then, we sorted contractions and compound words. We took a math test called the Big 20, and we did a goal chart. We also worked in groups to solve many different kinds of math story problems. This has been a great week!

We also read Nicholas, Where Have You Been?
We are still learning about shadows. We went outside and put blocks on dark colored paper to make a permanent shadow called a "sunprint". Brandon's turned out great! In writing we're doing fact stories. We learned about style and tried to add it to our stories. We published them in little books. In math, we're super fast when we add doubles! We also learned that using a number line takes the longest. Yesterday we had art, and we made surprises! We won't tell. This has been a great week! This is the best week we had! Today was our 100 Book Club celebration! Ashley got to be on the announcements, and Alie got to be a cheerleader. We are wearing our special shirts. All of first grade read 16,657 books! Our class read 1,925 books! Today is also hat day. Today we watched a show called Blue Dragon because it was too cold to go outside. We learned two new math tools: make ten and doubles plus one. Nathan lost a tooth today! Today in art we glued hearts onto our printing paper. In the computer lab, we used Pebble Go to take notes on two topics. We wrote facts. In science we're learning about light and shadows. That's why it's the best week we had!
