This week was a short week, but we learned a lot! Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday was Monday, so we were out of school. This week we learned about opinions. An opinion is what we think or how we feel about something. In science we learned about shadows. We got to do an experiment with flashlights and pattern blocks. In reading, we read many Jonathan London books. We wrote about our favorite book and the silly Froggy character. In math, we learned how to write math problems vertically. We played math games, too! Mrs. Ming was our substitute teacher on Thursday and Friday. We got to meet her kids.

This week was fun. This week it was the 100th day of school. We didn't have to do work, and we brought stuffed animals to school. We still learned things. It was also Skylar's birthday. We had donuts and Twizzlers to make the number 100. We did a play about Jonathan London's book The Waterfall. We read other books by Jonathan London that aren't about Froggy. One was called Fire Race. This weekend Sarah Grace gets to take Froggy home. Today is Friday, so it is the last day of our school week. We don't come to school Monday. On Monday, we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Sarah Grace joined the 100 Book Club. Now we have 17 kids in the club. We just finished learning about Harriet Tubman and took a test. We read the book Follow the Drinking Gourd. The drinking gourd is also called the Big Dipper. When we went to writing specials, Ms. Mounzer was our teacher! It was nice to see her again. We have been practicing opinion writing. This week we wrote about learning to do something new. We also talked about how to spell "said" and "they". We highlighted them in our Quickword books. In math we have been learning about sums, addends, and differences. The answer for subtraction is "difference". We learned how to write problems up and down. It was a great week
We had a great week! Today is Fun Friday. We have four more school days until the 100th day of school and Skylar's birthday. Today Jackson lost his first tooth! It started wiggling on Wednesday. We were so good in art class that we earned 21 marbles! We filled our marble jar! We got to pick what we wanted to do when we filled the jar.
We are learning about Harriet Tubman. We did a maze and drew a picture about the Underground Railroad. We played "Underground Railroad". It's a game that a conductor goes around with people behind them and leads them to freedom. They stop at stations to rest and have food. They have to be very quiet, and the other kids close their eyes and listen to how quietly they can escape. We also learned about the drinking gourd, or the big dipper. It was a way for people to find and follow the north star. We have a new author of the month. It is Jonathan London. He writes books about Froggy. We have read seven so far! Jordan got to take Froggy home for the weekend. In writing specials, we wrote a paragraph about "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus." We learned about opinion writing, and wrote a class opinion story about why everyone should have a pet. In math, we have been learning about adding and subtracting. We had a mystery word that was the answer to a subtraction problem. The word was "difference". The adding word is "sum". Addends are the number that you're adding. We did the instant number chart where we had to be "instant". The teacher showed us different number of beans, then put some behind her back. We had to look at the beans and tell how many were behind the teacher's back. We had a good week. |
