We had the best week ever! We went outside every day. Owen's favorite outside area is the court. Max likes the blacktop best. William and Anderson liked the playground, and and Chase liked the track. Hayden likes when his friends help him tie his shoes. In math we learned to count to 100 by tens and ones. It is very helpful to group objects in tens. Pierson's favorite thing to learn about this week was landforms on earth. We wrote our own stories about landforms. Camden liked telling jokes at bus call. We read Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes. We learned about the writing process and watched a video of Kevin Henkes planning, drafting, and revising his books. We also compared real and imaginary mice by watching the Chrysanthemum movie and a movie about a real mouse doing imaginary things. We earned two new literacy centers this week- the writing center and buddy reading. We are going to have Fun Friday this afternoon and go to treasure box. We love our teacher, Mrs. Baker.

We had the best week ever! We made new friends. In math we learned that 2-2=0. We counted by 100's and practiced tally marks. The calendar has taught us about dates. We also learned about picture and bar graphs. We practiced some new vocabulary words: vertical and horizontal. Our author for the month is Kevin Henkes. We read one of his books called Wemberly Worried. It taught us about things that are real and imaginary. Some of our specials were P.E. and Art. We even solved a mystery! It was about the book called My Father's Dragon. We have been doing other fun things like writing and going outside. Outside, we went to the track. In Social Studies, we learned that we live on a planet called Earth. It has more land than water. We have been busy!
This was the best week! Our new author is Robert Munsch. We have read many of his books including I Have To Go, Thomas's Snowsuit, Ribbon Rescue, and Paper Bag Princess. Today is Jordyn's pretend birthday because her birthday is in the summer. The school days are shorter now, but they are really back to normal. Today is the last Friday, and we only have four more days. Kids who earned 20 A.R. points went to the magic show. They had medals for tickets. We had our party this week. It was fun! We milked cows and had a water balloon egg toss. We also saw a music guy. He is friends with the author of Pete the Cat books, and he sang songs about the books. In math, we did missing addend problems. I hope you have a great weekend!
This week was fun, don't you think? The kids in third, fourth, and fifth grades are taking the CRCT. We have to be really quiet in the halls. It's very hard. Sometime we have specials, and they are in the afternoon. We went outside at a different time. We played four corners. This week was really weird. We practiced diagraphs. We had a spelling bee, and Genevieve was the only one who could spell "oil". We are still taking A.R. tests. Some people are going to the Magic Show, and some people are almost there. In science, we learned about magnets. We took our test on two-digit addition. Everyone did a great job! We learned how to add numbers vertically. We always start with the ones place. We are reading a chapter book by Cynthia Rylant called Gooseberry Park. Some people won medals for field day. Have a great Fun Friday and weekend!
This week we did new things. We learned so much! Soon we will be in second grade. We only have 19 more days of first grade! Miranda got new glasses. We learned math with big numbers like 25. We learned to add and subtract them. We always start with the ones place. We did science about magnets. We learned that they look like magic, but they're not. The magnetic force looks like strings pulling things. Some are really strong. Magnets can pull things even if something is in between them. We can even move things through our desks! If you try to pull the south part with another south part, they push against each other. We can make scissors become magnets.We learned that Earth is a giant magnet! We learned about Earth Day, and some people made bugs to re-use materials. They also wrote stories about them. Soon we will have field day. Yay! Every day when we go outside, we jump the long jump rope. We are very good at it! Tomorrow is Camden's birthday. We had a very great week!
Today is Friday. We went to book buddies. Yesterday, we made -ice words with a plastic egg. In math, we played "I Have, Who Has" with place value. In social studies, we are learning about Teddy Roosevelt. When he was little, he didn't go to school. He had someone teach him at home. He loved to read and learn. He made a museum in his house just like his dad. He loved to draw pictures of animals and plants. We are making a nature museum, too. Teddy Roosevelt had ashtma, but they didn't have inhalers back then. He had trouble seeing, and he needed glasses. Jonae and Jordyn got glasses. They look pretty! Teddy Roosevelt loved animals. He started national parks. Alexandria brought three national park quarters for our collection. I can't wait for another fun week!
We had a great week! In science, we are learning about living and non-living things. We planted peanuts! We filled up our marble jar and celebrated. We brought our stuffed animals to school to celebrate. (They are non-living.) We are making a graph of Dr. Seuss books in math. We read and wrote poems this week. We made a poem into a shape. Today we are finishing Dr. Seuss. We are writing an opinion story about our favorite Dr. Seuss story. Today is going to be a great day!
This week was great! We celebrated St. Patrick's Day on Monday. It was also Landen's birthday. We got jello with whipped cream! We also got a snack on our desks. We think the leprechaun came, too, because the room was a mess. There were chairs on the table! We had a substitute for two days. She was a good teacher! We had some rainy and cold days, so we had to stay inside for recess. We watched Dr. Seuss movies. We also read Wacky Wednesday and The King's Stilts. We read a non-fiction book about penguins. Then we drew pictures and wrote about them. In math we have been learning about fact families. Froggy went home with Landen yesterday. Tonight we will have the school carnival and the book fair! Today we are also celebrating Jayme and Lilly's birthdays. This week was a fun week!
This was a great week! We have a new girl in our class. Her name is Jayme. She is very nice. Last night, we did the musical called "Bugz". We're learning about Dr. Seuss. Some of the books we have read are Horton Hatches the Egg, The Big Brag, Dr. Seuss's ABC, There's a Wocket in My Pocket, and Green Eggs and Ham. In math, we are learning about the equal sign. Equal means the same as. Another math word for equal is equivalent. We are finished learning about Harriet Tubman. Today is Jack's birthday. I am looking forward to another great week!
This week was extraordinary. We read Quick As A Cricket. It was full of similes. We practiced using similes in our writing. We also worked on -ame words. In math, we practiced ways to make ten. We used balances and blocks to find equal ways to make ten. We are still reading books by Leo Lionni. We read Biggest House In the World. We learned about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. We learned about the drinking gourd. It was a big dipper made out of stars. Today is Miranda's pretend birthday. Her real birthday is Sunday. Sunday is also Dr. Seuss's birthday. Today is the last day of February. We finished reading Mr. Popper's Penguins. Wednesday and Thursday we had early release. This week was magical. I wish we could have it again!
